Description

About 1,700 light years from the Sun, the North America Nebula a glowing mass of interstellar gas and dust equivalent to more than 4,000 solar masses. In the early fall here in Monterey, CA the nebula rises in northeast evening sky, tracing an arc to the zenith, then dropping to the horizon in the northwest.

The data for this image are some of the best I have acquired with an HFR ranging from 1.6 to 2.0 for all of the narrow and broadband channels. In framing this rendition I was striving to focus on the liquid-like transparency of the central nebular clouds and its inner glow. I used the Pixinsight NBRGB script to assemble an RGB master together with starless versions of the Ha, OIII, and SII stacks to create depth and vivid, natural star color.
